«ALL FOR ONE»Arme und Beine unabhängig voneinander zu bewegen, einen komplizierten Rhythmus damit zu kreieren, ist schon schwierig genug. Aber gleichzeitig dazu eine Melodie singen, das grenzt schon an ein Wunder. In der Popgeschichte gab es nicht viele, die das beherrschten. Karen Carpenter von den Carpenters war so ein Wunderwesen. Phil Collins, Buddy Miles, Sheila. E., Grant Hart und Don Henley von Eagles seien hier auch noch erwähnt.
Im Jazz war es der 2017 verstorbene Grady Tate, der diesbezüglich Maßstäbe setzte. Nun gibt es wieder jemanden. Sein Name? Jamison Ross, ein 31jähriger, aus Florida stammender, in der Kirche musikalisch sozialisierter Drummer. 2012 gewann er die renommierte Thelonious-Monk-Drums-Competition. Das Label Concord bot ihm sofort einen Vertrag an. Ross griff zu. 2015 hat er dann sein Debütalbum aufgenommen und veröffentlicht. Es wurde sofort für den Grammy nominiert.
Ross war damals kein Unbekannter mehr.

Nicht zu vergessen, ist sein Engagement beim Fusion/Jazzrock-Kollektiv Snarky Puppy, zu dessen Erfolg auch er beigetragen hat.

Sein zweites Soloalbum „All For One“ war dann noch gehaltvoller.
Mit viel Gusto zelebriert er darauf funky Liedgut aus Lousiana. Mit souligem Trimbre singt er sich durch bekannte Szenarien. Das meiste aber komponierte Ross selbst. Die Dringlichkeit, die seine Stimme abstrahlt, erinnert durchaus an Soulgrößen wie Donny Hathaway.

Jamison Ross is a vocalist and drummer that delivers messages of humanity through the medium of jazz. A native of Jacksonville, FL, Jamison’s passion for music was cultivated while growing up in his grandfather’s church, where he realized the effectiveness of music. After earning his BA in Jazz Studies at FSU, he pursued a Masters in New Orleans where he now resides. In 2012, Ross’ career began to take shape after winning the Thelonious Monk Jr. International Jazz Competition for his drumming. This achievement afforded him a recording contract with Concord Jazz. His 2015 debut release, Jamison, introduced the world to his concept of rhythm and melody and also garnered a GRAMMY® nomination for Best Jazz Vocal Album.
